The aim of this innovation project is to demonstrate the feasibility of the ultrasound method on engineered structures in a marine environment. This study is evaluating the characteristics of ultrasonic echoes for assessing the conditions of wind turbine foundation structures. The project will provide the catalyst for the development of a potential routine commercial inspection service, impacting significantly on offshore wind farm management by improving estimates of wind turbine life cycle and better prioritisation of retrofitted repairs.
