Hazards

Geological hazards

This aim of this project was to establish the impact on adjacent infrastructure from burst water mains in sandy soils. Resulting pressurised water can create abrasive slurries and cavities, which can contribute to further infrastructure failures. A series of new maps of soil–sand content for England and Wales were produced enabling the identification of potentially vulnerable areas.
