Hazards

Storms and gales wind

The aim of this innovation project was to improve the analysis of current and future wind risks on the electricity infrastructure in the UK. Storm Risk Assessment of Interdependent Infrastructure Networks (STRAIN) benefitted from new high resolution simulations of future wind climate. A case study in Humberside has demonstrated that while the risk of wind-related failures is high, climate change will not have a statistically significant effect on the site (although other sites may vary). This information can be used to support more investment in measures that will improve the reliability of electricity supply to UK consumers.
